On 17 and 18 October 2023, the KTM consortium – kidsTUMove goes Europe – met in Seville for its third project meeting. The meeting was a key moment to discuss the progress and the project’s future plans.
The primary objective of the KTM project is to raise awareness of the importance of sports for children with chronic diseases (CD), in particular those with congenital heart disease (CHD) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The project aims to increase children’s participation in physical activities, disseminate useful information and materials, develop exercise programmes and, above all, create a trainer manual to enable coaches to provide qualified support to children with chronic illnesses during sports activities.
The consortium has achieved significant milestones in its project. They have successfully completed a «Systematic literature review,» which has been submitted to an international journal for publication. This review will offer an extensive overview of the existing knowledge to gain profound insights into the state-of-the-art situation. With this knowledge, the consortium can drive informed decision-making and promote new actions to further the project’s objectives.
During the meeting, the Partners shared ideas and insights on the following main focus: the overview paper ‘Sport programmes for kids with CD’. The consortium is actively working on this document to gather best practices and specific sections for children with CHD and PTSD, including key research references.
All the work done by the consortium, both completed and ongoing, is crucial to developing trainer manual, which will be finalized by June 2024. The Manual will be a valuable resource for coaches to provide the best possible support to children with chronic illnesses during sports activities.
The success of the consortium’s efforts can be attributed to the perfect collaboration between the partners. Constant communication and a shared commitment to the project goals carried the work forward with quality and motivation. Synergy within the consortium proved to be a key element in achieving the project’s mission.
