The KTM Trainer’s Manual was developed to support trainers working in the field of sports with children who have chronic diseases and post-traumatic stress disorder. By equipping trainers with medical insights and practical techniques, the Manual aims to create inclusive, safe sports environments that promote the physical and emotional well-being of these children. Recently, an evaluation assessed the Manual’s quality, clarity, and impact in real-world settings.
The evaluation aimed to determine how well the Manual prepared trainers to deliver sports activities tailored to the specific needs of these children. Trainers from Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece participated in an online survey, implementing the Manual’s guidance during Multiplier Sport Events in their respective countries.
Evaluation Process and Key Findings
Trainers generally expressed high satisfaction with the Manual structure, describing it as well-organized, easy to follow, and effective in building their confidence to manage activities for children facing health and other challenges. However, the evaluation highlighted several areas for enhancement, including the addition of real-life examples and case studies to help trainers visualize how to apply the techniques in various contexts, simplifying the language in certain sections for broader accessibility, and improving the visual design by incorporating icons, tables, and illustrations for easier information navigation.
Project partners have already started implementing these improvements to better align the Manual with the needs of its target audience, ensuring it remains practical, engaging, and accessible.
Moving Forward
The revised edition of the Manual is expected to be even more effective, helping trainers create inclusive, supportive environments where children can experience the joy and benefits of physical activity. This evaluation provides a clear path forward, ensuring that the Trainer’s Manual remains a reliable resource for inclusive coaching that positively impacts children throughout Europe. The Manual revision is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Once the Trainer Manual has been translated, it will be published in English, as well as German, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese and Italian and will be freely downloadable here from the KTM website.
