On August 8, 2024, the Kids to life grounds in Munich, were buzzing with excitement as 45 children and teens, aged 8 to 17, gathered for the German Multiplier Sport Event. This inclusive event was designed and organized by TUM for young people with chronic diseases, and their healthy siblings and friends were also welcomed to join the fun. The day was packed with diverse sports activities, including karate, judo, dance, acrobatics, swimming, circuit training, balance training, and volleyball. The event emphasized the joy of movement, creating an environment filled with laughter and enthusiasm.

A key focus of the event was the practical testing of the newly developed Trainer Manual. The 11 experienced trainers, who come from various sports clubs and typically work with healthy children, had read the manual in advance and tailored their sessions to the unique needs of the participants. Although some trainers initially felt unsure about working with children with chronic conditions, including congenital heart diseases, diabetes, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder or cancer, their hesitation quickly dissolved as they were inspired by the children’s energy and joy. Many of the trainers are now eager to make their regular sports offerings more inclusive for children with chronic illnesses.

The input from these trainers will be invaluable in refining the Trainer Manual before its final release at the end of the year. The event concluded with a heartwarming community dance on the main stage and an awards ceremony where all participants were celebrated for their efforts.

The KidsTUMove team from TUM extends its heartfelt thanks to the Kids to Life Foundation for hosting the event on their wonderful experiential grounds. The Multiplier Sport Event was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.
